The Oakville lifesTYle HOme sHOW Get Your Bank Bed Challenge race is set for May 3 continued from p.5 "This community has been raising funds for the Oakville hospital for 65 years. It's absolutely necessary, as the government doesn't fund medical equipment. It really is up to the community to make it happen," said Tina Triano, OHF CEO. "You funded the building, you funded expansion, and most recently, you funded equipment as a community, specifically beds in a Bank Bed Challenge." She noted the transportation of equipment to the new hospital is underway, with a new CT scanner arriving recently and installation happening "as we speak." "Our beautiful new hospital...we are just a little more than eight months from moving into it. If there's one message I want you to get out to your customers and colleagues, it's we are on time, we are on budget," said Triano. The OHF CEO said the organization is "very proud of the new single-patient room design," that has become a model that's being adopted by other hospitals in Canada. The new building, expected to open in December, will be equipped with additional operating rooms. It will also utilize new technology "that didn't even exist 10 years ago," Triano said, resulting in less invasive surgeries that will allow patients to return home sooner. Dr. Sanjay Pandeya, a local HHS nephrologist, said he was "very impressed" with how supportive the entire community is of the new hospital. The private rooms, which are 80 per cent concealed, improves patient safety, he said. "We all hear about the infection problems that go on in the hospital, the spread of infection and wards closing. Having private rooms will be so vital to preventing those types of things from happening," he said. "They also provide the availability for family members to come and support their loved ones."
