www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, April 3, 2015 | 20 Get into mischievous misdirection at exhibits Oakville Galleries wants art lovers to get into some mischievous misdirection with the opening of two spring exhibitions. House & Home & Garden features a series of new works by Toronto artist Roula Partheniou, while Not a new world, just an old trick is a large scalable structure created by Vancouver's Samuel Roy-Bois. Partheniou's exhibit blends together actual and fabricated construction materials and presents replicas of familiar household objects, such as light bulbs, candlesticks and toys. "Partheniou offers a scene suspended between the order of daily routine and the chaotic upheaval of change," said a press release issued by Oakville Galleries. "(Her) playful sculptural work manipulates colour, shape and scale to create objects that hover between representation and abstraction." Partheniou has exhibited across Canada and internationally, with recent shows in Toronto, Winnipeg, Israel, Vancouver and Massachusetts. Her works are also featured in collections held by the National Gallery of Canada Library and Archives, Munich Re, Bank of Montreal, TD Bank and University of Toronto. Artscene "Connected to your Community" Roy-Bois' exhibition is a large-scale model for an imagined art gallery. "While the structure's institutional form is familiar enough, its rough appearance and scalability diverge from traditional expectations of the museum," stated the press release. "Questioning the boundaries between exhibition spaces and art itself, Roy-Bois invites visitors to climb his sculpture's various levels and enter its interior, where he has hung work from Oakville Galleries' collections." The exhibit is co-produced by SFU Galleries in Vancouver, Ottawa's Carleton University Art Gallery and Oakville Galleries. Roy-Bois's works have been shown all over Canada and internationally, including in Vancouver, Montreal, Lethbridge, and Paris, France, among others. Partheniou's exhibit is at Oakville Galleries' Centennial Square location, 120 Navy St., while residents can head to Gairloch Gardens, 1306 Lakeshore Rd. E., to catch Roy-Bois's works. Both exhibits are open to the public until May 24. Admission is by donation. Celebrity makeup artist and Canadian beauty authority, Grace Lee, knows how to take your look from day to night and makes achieving fabulous eye makeup from sunrise to sunset a cinch with these simple tips. Tips for day: Get mind-blowingly awless day-time eyelashes every morning with this sometimes forgotten makeup bag tool. An eyelash curler is an easy way to make your eyelashes look instantly fuller and thicker. "Don't ever leave your house without curling your eyelashes and adding a few coats of mascara," recommends Lee. "It's the fastest thing you can do that will have the highest impact on your appearance." For a softer day look, reach for a brown eye shadow to line your eyes instead of eyeliner. This helps to blend the colour more seamlessly into the lashline and skin while still providing some de nition to the eyes. Elevate your eyes even further with a warm eye shadow or coloured contact lens. "The contrasts of a rich, dark brown shadow and AIR OPTIX COLORS Honey contact lenses results in a look that's fresh and modern," says Lee. Tips for night: To achieve a sultry nighttime look go for a classic smoky eye. When you're getting decked out for a major night on the town, nothing adds drama quite like this. The best part? The smoky eye doesn't have to be black. Try grey, navy, plum or forest green to dial up the sexy and add a level of surprise. This is another great way to #LiveInColor. Use metallic shadows to add drama and intrigue to the eye. Compliment this metallic palette with the addition of AIR OPTIX COLORS' Sterling Gray contact lenses. "This offers fashion-forward beauties a bold, new way to enhance and rede ne their look, complementing their already vibrant style and highlighting one of the rst things people notice their eyes," notes Lee. Never be afraid to #LiveInColor with a new beauty routine.
