Town council voted unanimously on Monday to approve a 2.79 per cent increase to the town's portion of the tax bill. When married with a proposed 1.6 per cent increase to Halton Region's tax rate and no increase in education rates, Oakville property owners will be looking at a 1.7 per cent hike in property taxes. This means that residential property taxes would increase by $14.88 per $100,000 of assessment, so a home assessed at $400,000 would pay an additional $59.52 per year or $1.14 per week. "Council has once again honoured its commitment to its residents to provide the programs, services and infrastructure support expected by our community," said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton.
