Bank Bed Challenge races to raise funds for hospital by Nathan Howes Special to the Beaver 5 | Friday, April 3, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com It may not be what hospital beds are typically used for, but on Sunday, May 3, they will go a long way in raising funds for fixtures for the new Oakville hospital. The hospital mainstay will be converted into a mode of transportation in a race for the 10th annual Birmingham Bank Bed Challenge, which involves more than 40 local bank branches working collaboratively this month to collect money for the purchase of patient care beds for the yet-to-open hospital at Third Line and Dundas Street. The campaign, which has a goal of $125,000 and runs until April 30, was officially launched Tuesday at the Holiday Inn Oakville Centre. In attendance were bank representatives and officials from the Oakville Hospital Foundation (OHF) and Halton Healthcare Services (HHS). The race will occur on Lakeshore Road East and is open to local organizations. There are four confirmed participants so far: Budds' BMW, Oakview Funeral Home, Revera Inc. and the Oakville Fire Department. An average hospital bed can range in price from $12,000-$50,000, depending on a patient's needs, according to the OHF . see Bank on p.12 A STEP BEYOND IN CARE Do you have: Representatives from BMO, CIBC , HSBC, RBC , Scotiabank, TD and National Bank pose with one of the beds to be used in the race at the Launch of the 2015 Birmingham Bank Bed Challenge. | photo by Jayson Mills - special to the Beaver Salima Kassam Reg.
