Outlined in the report, staff made recommendations for a master plan that addresses all the streets within the downtown study area, including a preferred option for the reconstruction of Lakeshore Road East. The recommendations included wider boulevards, better accessibility for all, an on-street cycling network, improvements to street tree planting, streetscape furnishings and materials concept, and conversions from one-way to two-way streets. Also deferred to the April 13 meeting, was an update report on the Downtown Cultural Hub and a Downtown Parking Garage Feasibility Study report. Oakville's Official Plan is comprised of the Livable Oakville Plan which pertains to lands south of Dundas Street and north of Highway 407, as well as the North Oakville East and West Secondary Plans which apply to the lands north of Dundas Street and south of Highway 407. Why are we reviewing it? The Town is required, under Planning Act legislation, to review and update the Official Plan every five years. The Livable Oakville Plan was adopted by Council in 2009 and approved by the Ontario Municipal Board in 2011. The Ontario Municipal Board approved the North Oakville East Secondary Plan in 2008, and the North Oakville West Secondary Plan in 2009. It is now time for the Town to review these documents to ensure that the policies are consistent with the latest provincial policies, support the Town's strategic goals, and reflect the vision and needs of the community. Additional Information Any interested person may speak at the special public meeting of Council and/or make written submissions advising Council of requested revisions. Should you wish to speak at this meeting, you may register with the Clerk's department by noon on May 11, 2015.
