First and foremost, we've gone high tech. For the first time, viewers will have two ways to bid: traditionally, by phon ing in to the bid line and now by Internet at www.oakvillerotary.org. The Internet com ponent o f the Auction has always had some great exclusive items that you won't see on TV, but now you will be able to bid for both TV and Internet items with just a click of your mouse. Speaking of bids, we hope to avoid those last-minute disappointments of not being able to get through to our operators by offering a `Maximum Bid' opportunity. When you call in, you will be asked if you would like to register a o p O a k v il l e Ro t a r y A u c t i o n maximum bid ... what you would ulti mately be willing to pay for the item. As long as your maximum bid is the highest received, the computer will automatically add $5 to the current bid so that you are again registered as the highest bidder. While it may sound complicated, Ebay has been doing it for years and we know it will make win ning the items you really want that much easier. But some things won't be changing: the hundreds of incredible items up for bid, and our dependence on you to make the event a success. After the fun of last year's Live Auctions on both Friday and Saturday nights, we've enlisted the help of many local celebrities to answer the phones this time. During the Live Auction segments each night, items will be up for bid every two minutes. You'll have to be one of the first to call in, as a limited number of phones are available and callers may stay on the line to ensure they win their item. We've also again have special Theme Segments airing each night. Be sure to watch future stories for more details. O f course, none of this would be possible without the incredible support from many local businesses who have signed up as corporate sponsors. QEP Halloween for Hunger Queen Elizabeth Park students have organized the school's first Halloween for Hunger food drive. More than 40 volunteers will be vis iting approximately 2,900 houses in Bronte, Glen Abbey and West Oaks Trails on Halloween and asking for donations. Flyers have been distributed. Donations can also be dropped at the school on Yolanda Drive. This program is modeled after Haloween for Hunger at Oakville Trafalgar High School. West, Oakville Town Centre II, OAKVILLE SPECIAL FEATURES WRITER For the past 22 years, Anthony Coffa has grown up in the restaurant business. His father, Pasquale, owned his own ' restaurant in Toronto for years. Now, the latter Coffa has f brought his experience and expertise to Joseph's j Mediterranean Cuisine as its owner. Named after Anthony's oldest son, Joseph, the restaurant, j a jewel in the heart of North Oakville, has offered the best in . exquisite French and Italian cuisine for the past two and a half i years. And it has gradually established itself as one of the pre- i mier restaurants in the area. Anthony prides himself of bringing the best to his regular clientele and new customers who visit the restaurant on a daily basis because of great things they've heard through word of j mouth. "I want' to be able to offer an exclusive type of cuisine. We're always looking for exotic ingredients and sauces," he says. "For example, all the vegetables served with our entrees are individually sauteed with their own herbs and spices." As well, one of the reasons customers keep coming back to Joseph's is because Anthony is dedicated to paying great attention to detail. "We pay great attention to detail and presentation.. .1 love being with people when presenting one of the fine dishes we offer," he says. "It's great to see the customer's reaction - it's as if their eyes are eating first." Such eye-catching dishes include: Grilled Calamari, Herb Marinated with Sweet Pepper and Fennel Slaw, Lime and Grainy Mustard Aioli; Whole Wheat Ravioli, Ricotta and Mushroom Stuffed Triangles with Sweet Peppers, Baby Spinach, Gorgonzola Cheese, White Wine Cream Sauce; Sunburst Quails, Honey Orange Marinade with Seared with Julienne Grilled Vegetables, Balsamic Citrus Medeira Glaze and Toasted Herb couscous; and Veal Tenderloin Toumedos, Lobster and Tarragon Compound Butter, Porcini Mushrooms, Shallots, Barolo Creme Reduction. Although Anthony has ventured on his own by opening Joseph's, his family, and in particular his father, are still involved - Pasquale is the restaurant's Maitre'd. Anthony also plans an expansion to Joseph's within the next year. The plans are to add a bar and lounge, as well as an addition to the dining room that will allow people to rent the space for private functions. And if the animosity between his sons, aged one and three and a half years old, is any indica tion, Anthony jokes he might have to name the new addition after his younger son, Stefan. Ultimately, Joseph's Mediterranean Cuisine, with a staff of 10 that brings over 40 years of experience, is family owned and operated and brings the traditional values and strong work ethic that Anthony grew up with. "I like that customers come in and we get to know them by name. It's a small, but very friendly place to come in for an exquisite dining experience," he says. Joseph's Mediterranean Cuisine is accepting reservations for Christmas parties and their upcoming New Year's Eve gala dinner. Its hours are Monday to Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Joseph's Mediterranean Cuisine offers ample parking for its customers.
