His appearance ended an exhaustive six-hour search by the Halton police. By the end of the search, police had called in a helicopter from the York Regional Police, the Halton Regional Police Tactical Rescue Unit (TRU), a canine unit, a team of detectives from the Oakville division and uniformed patrol officers. The incident began innocently enough around 4 p.m. Saturday when the man apparently told his wife he was going to a nearby store for some items. When he didn't return, his wife con tacted his known hangouts and eventual ly found his van parked on Edgeware Road next to a large wooded area. Aware her husband was distraught over recent events in his life, she contact ed the police at 7 p.m. As the evening progressed, the police upgraded their searching techniques. During the evening they searched the area by helicopter using its spotlight and an imaging camera and conducted a grid ground search by the TRU unit. After six hours of searching, the miss ing husband walked out of the wooded area to seek help from one of the uni formed officers set up along the perime ter. He was treated by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries and transported to the hospital for a complete check. The Town of Oakville carried out a study to assess traffic operations on the major roads in the area, following the opening of the Bronte Radial Bridge. Roads that were reviewed include: Rebecca Street, Lakeshore Road, Mississaga Street and Bronte Road. The study also identified and assessed potential mitigation measures where appropriate. A Community Services Committee meeting has been arranged for: the driver around the throat and punched him in the head and chest. The two men stole cash from the cab dri ver's pocket and his cell phone. The cab driver attempted to follow the two suspects, but lost sight of them in the town houses near Sovereign Street and Jones Street. Police believe the same two sus pects may have been responsible for an earlier attack on another cab driver, who had driven three pas sengers in from Brampton. That as sault occurred while the cab driv er was parked in the Bronte Village Mall. Police said nei ther driver was seriously injured. Police received a limited descrip tion of the suspects. They are be lieved to be be tween 25-30 years old, possibly with brown hair. One suspect may have been wearing a burgundy shirt, while the other had a blue shirt.
