continued from p.9 She said job creation and the economy are key issues facing the riding, but suggested airplane noise from Pearson International Airport is an emerging concern. Tangri said her first priority is to ensure the community is served. "I'm here to listen. I think it's more important to hear the needs of the community rather than just telling everybody what you want to do for them," she said. "Right now, it's more of a listening process." Unlike her fellow nomination candidates, Effie Triantafilopoulos has been going door to door canvassing since January. Candidates hail from Burlington, Mississauga and Toronto "I really felt I had a unique combination of skills and career experience that I would be able to put towards public service and very much to the service of our community," she said. The former CEO of Save the Children says she is a strong supporter of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and what he has accomplished while in office. "I feel that what the government and the Prime Minister are doing is focusing in on the real needs of people," she said. "They're focusing in on helping seniors. They're focusing on helping families." Triantafilopoulos moved to the community in January. She said she wanted to become part of the community while she was running for the nomination. Despite recent activity, the Conservative nomination race for the Oakville-North Burlington riding seems to have calmed down since last year. The redrawn boundaries were barely dry before controversy struck. Last summer, former Conservative MP Eve Adams and local chiropractor Natalia Lishchyna abandoned their bids for the Tory nomination amid allegations of wrongdoing. The Oakville-North Burlington riding covers Oakville, north of Upper Middle Road; Burlington, north of the QEW and a small portion of south Milton. Conservative Party members who live in the riding will vote for their candidate in the coming weeks. The federal election is scheduled to take place Oct. 19. 13 | Thursday, April 16, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com halton.ca 311 Dr. Vanessa Milich & Associates Family Dental Care Encouraging Healthy and Happy Smiles Caring for Oakville Families for 10 years Welcoming New Patients Evening and Saturday Appointments Get Involved, Share Your Ideas Halton Regional Council is now accepting applications from members of the community to fill positions on the following agencies, boards and committees: Queensbury Dental 905.849.8449 Dundas St. Oakmead n Trafalgar Rd. · · · · Older Adult Advisory Committee Natural Heritage Advisory Committee Halton Agricultural Advisory Committee Regional Waterfront Parks Advisory Committee River Oaks Blvd. Upper Middle Rd.
