Carttera Private Equities held a groundbreaking April 10 for the business park that promises to bring several hundred jobs to town in a mix of office, retail, high-profile industrial and hotel tenants. The first tenant, Westcon, a marketleading international specialty distributor of technology products that's moving its Canadian headquarters from Montreal to Oakville, was announced at the groundbreaking. "We are thrilled to have our first tenant, which is Westcon," said by Carttera Partner Dean Cutting. "We are in conversations with some hotels, two large potential office users and there are some retailers we are talking to right now. It's too early to name them, but things are moving along. It's a very active business park right now." Commercial tenants will operate in premises ranging from 10,000-300,000 square feet while retail tenants are expected to operate in locations between 1,000-25,000 square feet in size. Carttera Private Equities held a groundbreaking ceremony for its 42-acre business park. Oakwoods Business Park is located at Ford Drive and Upper Middle Road. The first phase of this multi-phased project is expected to be completed in late 2015. Cutting said the location has easy access to major roadways via the QEW and Hwys. 403 and 407. "We are always happy to see new employment brought to Oakville, especially high-quality employment," said Ward 6 Councillor Tom Adams. "Oakville is a place of highly-educated and professional people and I believe what you are going to see coming into this area will be employment that will match that professional skillset." Oakville resident Lynn Smurthwaite-Murphy, Westcon North America's executive vicepresident, said her company is relocating here from Montreal because of its location. She said the Westcon office would house 3540 employees with some new hiring anticipated. The new Ford Drive/QEW off-ramp connection to North Service Road will provide direct access into Oakwoods Business Park.
