The Ridge's Daniel Moll prepares to make his pitch by Ian Holroyd Oakville Beaver Staff 3 | Friday, April 24, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com An Oakville student has been selected as a finalist in a competition for budding high school entrepreneurs. Daniel Moll, who is in Grade 11 at Iroquois Ridge High School, is one of 20 young people who will take part in the Young Entrepreneurs, Make Your Pitch competition. The finalists -- accompanied by their chaperones -- are invited to a three-day conference in Toronto from Sunday (April 26)to Tuesday (April 28), where they will participate in a training session as well as compete in a Dragons' Den-style pitch competition. "I think I'm going to learn a lot from it because there are going to be 19 other innovative entrepreneurs from all across Ontario," said Moll, while on his lunch break at school. "And I'm sure a bunch of the other participants are going to have cool ideas and I can learn from them and make some good connections." To enter, students were required to create a two-minute video outlining their business idea. Moll's business is a company called Excalibur that collects e-waste from households. "The goal is to divert as much electronic waste from the landfills as possible and properly recycle it," he said. Online voting and an expert panel of judges selected the best videos to advance to the finals. Moll used graphics and animation in his video to show a need for his service while presenting the importance of recycling e-waste. Excalibur is different, Moll explained, because it will actually go to a client's home to pick up the discarded electronics. He said the focus of his business is lessening the impact of electronic waste on the environment, a subject about which he said he's passionate. "I want to help other people realize the importance of the environment and by recycling see Six on p.5 Daniel Moll inside today's Editorial Artscene Beaver www.insideHALTON.com Sore Feet, Sports Injury, Painful Ingrown Toenails?
