Created to support Oakville Galleries' imaginative and engaging public programs. Artful Liaisons also assists in building a legacy for the com munity through the acquisition of works of art. In the past three years, including matching grants from the Walter and Duncan Gordon Foundation, Artful Liaisons raffle has raised more than $26,800. This private sector fundraising is considered in the calculation of govern ment funding awarded to Oakville Galleries -- in effect increasing the amount to approximately $53,600. Only 350 tickets are available for the raffle. Plus taxes Blakelock student makes opera debut Teen sings in chorus in Mississauga production o f La Boheme Sixteen-year-old Margaret Sekula, a Blakelock High School student, will be making her singing debut with the Opera Mississauga Chorus. The Grade 11 student will be singing in the chorus for Opera Mississauga's production o f La Boheme at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga. The opera opened Saturday at 8 p.m. and follows with nightly performances on Nov. 28 and 30. While painting scenes for Opera Mississauga's opening production of the 2002-2003 season. Nikola Subic Zrinjski, Sekula heard about the audi tions for the chorus and was successful in her tryout. Sekula has been in choirs since grade one and began voice lessons a couple of years ago. She is currently completing her Grade 7 in vocal music at the Royal Conservatory of Music and finishing her Grade 9 piano. Joining her in the chorus from Oakville are the father-daughter team of Terry (tenor) and Catherine (soprano) Rooney. Terry most recently appeared in Opera Mississauga's North American premiere of Nikola Subic Zrinjski where he performed as a soloist in the role of Paprutovic. He was also seen on stage in Oakville in Studio West Theatre's pro duction of Oliver in the adult chorus and in the role of Dr. Grimwig. His daughter, Catherine, has per formed with the chorus in the Mississauga Opera productions Lucia di Lammerm oor and Nikolai Subic Zrinski. She also appeared in Oliver with her father.
