The Blades beat the Burlington Cougars 5-2 on Friday and the Brampton Capitals 10-3 on Thursday. Oakville played last night (Tuesday) in Streetsville (the game went beyond our press deadlines). This weekend, they play two games at home, hosting Mississauga Chargers on Friday and the Bramalea Blues on Saturday. Both games start at 7:45p.m. at Ice Sports Oakville. Hisey counts on speed and vision (Continued from page C2) Even though Hisey, who describes his hockey strengths as skating and seeing the ice well, is totally focused on mak ing the jum p to the NHL, he does have a back-up plan. "I would want to play hockey at a Canadian university (paid by his junior club) and maybe become a firefighter," he said. Away from the ice, this OAC student, in the final year of high school, likes to unwind with his teammates on Tuesday nights when they hold a special team function to help bond. Often they will spend it seeing a movie, dinner or just plain hanging out. To achieve his ultimate dream of playing in the NHL, Hisey will once again have to overcome questions about his size, currently tipping the scales at 5'9", 175 pounds, but certainly not his heart. "Dan Giffin once again stepped up and made all the key saves when he needed to," commented coach Jay Anderson. "He really seems to have returned to his previous form." The offence was also in high gear, as the team rid itself of the sour taste that remained following their previous game -- a 7-1 blow-out loss at home the previous week to the Buffalo Lightning. While the traditionally powerful Brampton Capitals are having their troubles this year, the Burlington Cougars have showed much promise this year, and had won the previous two match-ups against the Blades. `T he key to tonight's win was the overall work ethic and discipline of our team," said Anderson after Friday's 5-2 vic tory. "The team was looking forward to playing Burlington again. The boys wanted to prove to themselves that they could still play at that level. Hopefully we can ride this wave for the next few games." Commenting on the 7-1 loss to Buffalo, coach Anderson said, "It was just one of those nights that absolutely nothing went right for us. It keeps showing us that we have a lot of work to do. I think after our game in Bramalea we practiced like a team that had everything going their way and didn't have to work. The game was a reflection of that practice." To add insult to injury, the game wasn't the only thing the Blades lost. With hot rookie Nick Dodge and new addition Jason DoPaco already out, the Blades also lost the services of five more players to suspensions due to an on-ice brawl that occurred near the end of the Buffalo game. Dodge, who has a broken hand, is expected to miss four weeks while DoPaco was serving a suspension for fighting. Added to the suspended list in the Buffalo fiasco were for wards Lane Moodie and Brad McKenzie, defenders Daryl Simich and Mike Swinton, and goalie Chris Hyk. The Devils rode the strong blocking of 6-foot-8 middle Justin Lintem to an exciting 27-25 win. The game saw a one-point lead go back and forth 12 times until OT scored two consecutive points for a 2-1 lead in games. OT, led by OAC captain Dan Murray, dominated for most of the fourth game to take home the gold medal. Murray, a 6foot-4 power hitter, had some huge kills to erase any thoughts of a comeback for Hansen. Seto said she knew she had a special team when she saw them play in a tournament in Calgary early in the season. She began booking other tournaments because she felt she needed to prepare her players for the tougher competition they would face at OFSAA. OT entered eight tournaments, winning five (McMaster, Liberman. E.C. Drury, Oakville Trafalgar and Eastview tour naments), finishing as finalists in another two (Calgary and Hansen), and only coming up empty handed at the York tour ney. Ironically, it may have been the York tourney, where they were ranked number one, that did them the most good, in the long run. "York brought them back to reality where they were able to say, hey, we might be number one, but we have to work a lot harder," said Seto. The tournament play paid off, despite Seto worrying she might bum out her players. The team was able to scout and play many of the teams they faced at OFSAA, including Rick Hansen. OT's experience at York coupled with their experience from last year's OFSAA championships -- where the team finished a disappointing 12th out of 20 teams -- prepared them for their number one ranking and tough schedule at Westdale this past weekend. "The loss at York was good for them because they were over confident and cocky and they thought they were number one all along," Seto said. "Even after OFSAA last year they said next year is our year." Seto said what made the team so great was the strong bonds the players had formed over the years. Most of the players had started playing together at E.J. James and continued on through the junior and senior ranks at OT.
