A 2 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday November 27, 2002 P R E -O W N E D V E H IC LE S OAK-LAND FORD LINCOLN FALL SAVINGS SALE 20th annual food drive fills shelves Thanks to the work of tireless volun teers and the generosity of Oakville resi dents. the Salvation Army has had its shelves restocked just in time for the hol iday season. For the past 20 years, Century 21 Miller Real Estate has been running a successful food drive and this year was no different. The goal was to collect enough food to assist more than 1,000 families in Oakville. As a result of Saturday's drive, the Sally Ann's food bank has received a significant boost. The donations will feed single people and families who, at a time of crisis, need help to put a meal on the table. The food drive is accomplished through the efforts of Mary Kay McCoy and her team at Century 21. McCoy co ordinated the work of approximately 200 volunteer drivers and collectors. The vol unteers met at Blakelock High School Saturday before heading out to collect the food left out on front porches. However, the volunteer efforts started much earlier than that. The 43,000 bags were donated by PCL Packaging and had to be labelled with instructions. Oakville Blueprint printed the instructions, and volunteers went to work taping the infor mation on each bag. Clients at both the Salvation Army Lighthouse Shelter and Halton Recovery House did the bulk of this work. To anyone whose bag was missed or would like to donate to the drive please drop your donation off at the Salvation Army Christmas Depot, rear doors, 530 Lyons Lane, Oakville (kt the north end of the GO property, or at the Salvation Army Community Church, 1225 Rebecca, between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. If you are unable to transport it, call 905-339-2370 and leave a message to arrange for a volunteer to pick it up. 2002 Explorer XLS 4x4 6 cylinder, loaded. Recent thefts have left two homeowners fuming after their Christmas decorations on their front lawns were stolen and other decorations tom. In less than 24 hours since dec orating the front of her home with Christmas wreaths and garland, Jennifer Frank's festive scene was destroyed by vandals. On Sunday afternoon, Frank and her family decorated the front porch and the fence surrounding her property at 323 Chartwell Rd. with garland and six wreaths she recently bought at a school Christmas fundraiser. Frank said that she woke up the next morn ing to find the wreaths gone and the garland in pieces. "I bought the wreaths in the community spirit. I couldn't believe it, I didn't even have them up a day," said Frank angrily, adding that her two children were very upset over the incident. She said she called police, but was told all they could do was patrol the area. "They made it sound as if it's something that happens all the time. That's not right. Don't these kids have anything better to do with their time than shred other people's private property?" Ken Hodgin of Bronte was in similar spirits after the two 40-f.t snowmen that have graced his front lawn at 225 Bronte Rd. for the last several Christmas' went missing after a week. He said nothing else on his property was taken or damaged. "All the kids know us. We are all quite friendly. I don't know if it is kids that did this, but there's no reason for it."
