A prototype of the arrange ment is created a few weeks in advance of the event. Rea is planning a golden look for the ball that will be the "opu lence of fall." Gold-leaf candelabras were constructed in his warehouse to complement the perfect balance of rust, red, and orange roses, and gold orchids. Rea took over Forget Me Not Flowers in 1979 at age 19 and, after 23 years, he still can't decide on a favourite flower. "If I said I had a favourite it wouldn't be fair. There's no flower I really dislike." His preferred flower to work with though, is the beloved rose, due to the huge variety and con sistent bloom size. It's an adapt able flower that can be used in most flower arrangements because of its vast colour spec trum, he said. When using flowers to deco rate, there are no rules, Rea said. "Flowers add that finishing touch. They bring everything together. It doesn't have to be a lavish affair, just one flower, sim ple, yet perfect." Community Notices Craft Show OA KV I L L E Florist enjoys sweet smell of success Creative arrangements offer a visual treat By Paula Henriques OAKVILLE BEAVER STA FF Premier Craft Show SAT., NOV. 9 SUN., NOV. 10 10:00 am - 4:00 pm Flowers are his art. Frank Rea, owner of Forget Me Not Flowers and blessed with an artistic ability, said he could have easily gone into illus tration, but preferred flowers as his canvas. "I was a starving florist," he said. Celebrating 23 years in busi ness, Rea said he not only deco rates events but he completely restyles them. "I've changed warehouses into regular ball rooms." He credits his family and staff for his success and said he always had an interest in flowers since he first stepped into the family gar den. The 10,000-sq.-ft. store and warehouse located at 594 Chartwell Rd., is decorated like an outdoor oasis surrounded by fragrant flowers, pebbles, stone, art and pillars. Rea and his team work with a requested colour scheme to create stunning flower arrangements, and hire outside contractors for the matching decor like table cloths. His flower arrangements have graced tables at seven royal visits, the most recent being the Queen's visit to Sheridan College and at Roy Thomson Hall, as well as the Toronto Film Festival, various corporate events, and numerous charities. The largest event he has ever completed was a week-long convention that saw more than 2,500 people. He said flowers were needed for both lunch and dinner settings all week. His latest project is the Candlelight Ball, presented by Glen Abbey R ecreation Centre (1 4 1 5 Th ird Line a t U pper M id d le ) I Som e o f O ntario's Finest jA rtis ts & Craftspeople [o ffe rin g th e ir w o rk fo r sale {Show Pass: $ 2 ./ Children Free !
