D2 - The Oakville Beaver, W ednesday N o vem b er 6, 2002 Pike nabs pair of shutouts for the midget Rangers Three wins and a tie in their past four league games have vaulted the Oakville Rangers triple-A midget rep team into first place with an 8-1-2 record. Matt Pike picked up a pair of shutouts over the span as the Rangers dropped their goals against average to 2.13. Rangers 8, Welland Tigers 1 (Oct. 23): Josh Smyth scored the Rangers' first two goals and then completed his hat-trick late in the third period. Steve Turner assisted on all of Smyth's mark ers and then added another on Jeff Vaive's goal. A1 Lee added a pair of goals and singles went to Jeff Nabeta, Daniel Hannigan-Daley and Vaive. Other assists went to Dan Ringwald (3) Brock Pawliw (2), Mike Chereshnevsky (2), Jordy McMillan, Vaive and Ben Heersink. Rangers 3, St. Catharines Sabres 3 (Oct. 28): coming off of a successful and busy weekend at the London Knights tournament the Rangers put on a gutsy effort despite fatigue and bumps and bruises. The Sabres were bent on aveng ing the recent spanking at the hands of the Rangers and came out banging. The special teams figured prominently as each of the teams scored power-play and short-handed goals. Jeff Vaive, Steve Turner and Brock Pawliw found the mark for the Rangers. The Rangers olitshot their hosts 44-7 as Matt Pike earned the shutout. Luke Tresham was called up to bolster a lineup shrunken by injuries to A1 Lee and Daniel Hannigan-Daley. Dan Ringwald and Jeff Nabeta knotted a pair of goals each while singles went to Steve Turner and Josh Smyth. Jordy McMillan chipped in with three helpers and Marc Richardson added a pair. Tyke `east' Oakville Rangers nab first two victories The East Oakville Tyke Rangers picked up their first two victories o f the season this past week, evening their early regular season record at two wins and two losses. The Rangers opened the season against the high flying Raiders from Georgetown and were blitzed 6-1. In their second game o f the season, the Rangers traveled west to take on Guelph and in a highly entertaining game dropped a 6-4 decision to the Storm. Oakville held leads of 2-0 and 3-2 but couldn't hold on. Goals were scored by Scott Goodman, Kevin Guzzo, Sydney McKibbon and Luke Shiplo. The next day against visiting Stoney Creek, Oakville fought back from deficits o f 1-0 and 2-1 for an exciting and hard fought 5-3 win, the last goal into an empty net by Cole Taylor. Kevin Guzzo fired a pair o f goals with other single markers to Scott Goodman and Luke Shiplo. Assists went to Cole Taylor, Sydney McKibbon, Brenton Chilton and Greg Campbell. Connor Challis was steady in net. The Rangers got themselves back to the .500 mark with a 4-1 win over visiting Ancaster Royals. Goals were scored by Scott Goodman, defenceman Greg Campbell (coast to coast), Kevin Guzzo and Connor Stack. Assists went to Austin Kosack and Kristyn Capizzano. Sean Perichak was great in net. The Rangers defensive corps o f O liver C hiang, Jesse Taylor, A ustin Kosack, Greg Campbell, Rocky Furfari and Brenton Chilton was rock solid and gave the Royals very little room to operate. Strong two-way performances were turned in by all three Ranger forward lines and in particular by wingers Brendan Weiler and Tyler Adams. John Guzzo and his assistants Rob Campbell, Jim Goodman and Rob Taylor coach the Oakville East Tyke Rangers. The team 's trainer is Linda Chilton.
