Young artists shine at talent show Contest brings out the best in dance, vocal, instrumental Eleven-vear-old Mary Cranston, 11, first, 9-12 dance category. Y oungsters from across the region brought their talent to the stage Saturday in the first annual Halton Talent Contest. The one-day event was held at Sheridan College's Theatre Sheridan where the cabaret-style setting provid ed the perfect venue for the youngsters to wow judges with their vocal, dance, and instrumental ability. Judy Roshko, director of advertis ing at City Parent magazine, and one of the judges said she was "absolutely blown away by the wide range of tal ent." Judges also included Paul Carr, Glenbumie School music teacher, and Zigmundt Jedrzejek, director of the Toronto Faculty of Music. Roshko said she couldn't begin to thank the sponsors enough. "We couldn't have done it without their support. Glenbumie School was the perfect fit. The school is wellknown for their exceptional arts and it was so appropriate for them to be involved in this kind of show," she said. "And Sheridan College as well for hosting the event. They did an amazing job. Because of them, the kids were able to experience an amount of professionalism com plete with the stage, lighting, and sound." Fifty-four contestants strutted their stuff in vocal, dance and instrumental categories for a total of six winners in two age groups.
