Hornets nearly upset older U.S. squad The Oakville Hornets peewee BB rep team took an older team of Michigan players to a shoot-out in the championship game, before set tling for a silver medal at the Sarnia Tournament of Lights this past weekend. Oakville completed the four-game round robin portion with three wins (5-1 versus Chatham, 1-0 over St. Clements and 5-0 against host Sarnia) and one loss (2-0 to Michigan). In the tournament final rematch, Oakville stymied Michigan 0-0 in regulation play, thanks to outstanding goaltending by Sarah Arcaro. An overtime period o f play left the game still tied, and it took Michigan three shooters to pot the winner in a shoot-out. Arcaro registered another round robin shutout, as did fellow goaltender Jackie May. Kristin M aton (two goals, two assists) and A lyssa Molfetta (a goal and three assists) led Hornets scoring over the five games. Shannon Werstroh registered two goals and one assist, while Meghan Eatough, Natasha Fryer and Brooke Kotack got a goal and two assists apiece. O ther points were added by Kim Falkenstein (two goals), Julie Kahnert (goal), Jaclyn Quinn (assist), Caroline Murdoch (assist) and Stephanie Smith (assist). "This tournament was a real confidence boost er for each o f our players," said coach Peter May. "Strong defensive play, solid goaltending, our passing game and scoring from all three lines were great takeaways from the weekend. Plus, a spirited attack totally surprised Michigan in the final game." G E T " O N T H E S P O T v NSp^ X f // REBATES HURRY IN BEFORE DECEMBER 14TH!
