Khody Ellis represents a couple of ties the Blue Devils hope to make with the community. A former Oakville Blue Star, Ellis was named Sheridan College's male athlete of the year after leading the Bruins to the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association championship in November. The Blue Devils also signed keeper Daniel Voci, who was the MVP of the national tournament, and midfielder Christian Kusiewicz from the Bruins' national championship team. "We want to make this a true Oakville club," Wilde said. The Blue Devils will use the OSC's under-21 squad as its reserve team, calling up players as needed throughout the season to help fill spots in the lineup. Wilde said three or four under-21 players will likely be in the lineup Sunday as the team awaits the return of players from college. "We want players to come though the OSC grassroots programs, train with the rep teams, then hopefully to the under-21 and then to the Blue Devils," Wilde said. "We want to keep Oakville players here so there's no need to go anywhere else. It's a perfect pathway." Tickets to Blue Devils games are $5 with free admission to any Oakville Soccer Club member. 57 | Friday, May 1, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Locals to play in world rugby U20 qualifier Oakville resident Matthew Tierney and Oakville Crusaders player Adrian Wadden have been named to the Canadian team that will compete at the World Rugby U20 Trophy 2015 tournament this month in Lisbon, Portugal. Tierney, a member of the Mississauga Blues, started both games for Canada in a two-game sweep of the United States in March that qualified Canada for the junior worlds. The Loyola high school grad helped Ontario win a national U18 championship two years ago. Wadden, who resides in Mississauga, started the first qualifying game against the U.S. Canada won the two-game series by an aggregate score of 69-25. The World Rugby U20 Trophy 2015, scheduled for May 12-24, is the second level of the World Rugby tournament structure for U20 national teams. The winner of the trophy is promoted to next year's World Rugby U20 Championship. Canada, which finished seventh at last year's Trophy competition after finishing second in 2013, will face Namibia, Hong Kong and Tonga in its round-robin contests. Two of seven teams in Ontario will go to nationals continued from p.55 "How we all shape up in the end (final roster) is really hard to know, but we're excited where we are right now. Any moves that do happen will only make us stronger." The St. Catharines Saints are hosting this year's President's Cup national senior B championship tournament, meaning the seven-team Ontario loop will send two representatives to nationals. The Saints and James Gang combined to go 27-5 last year in what was a top-heavy league, but Briscoe anticipates much more parity this season.
