It's time for Halton Region to hold its first of four rain barrel truckload sales as part of its water-efficiency program to help encourage wise outdoor water use. Anyone with proof of Halton residency can purchase a rain barrel for $40 at any of the four events. Barrels can be pre-paid for online directly through the rain barrel supplier (www.rainbarrel.ca/ halton), and be either picked up at the truckload sale or delivered to homes at an additional cost of $20. "Water consumption can double during the summer months due to lawn and garden watering, so I encourage residents to purchase and use rain barrels as a way to use water wisely around the home," Regional Chair Gary Carr said in a media release. Saturday's (May 9) first event runs from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Robert C. Austin Operations Centre, 11620 Trafalgar Rd., in Georgetown. Other sales will be May 30 at the Milton GO station, 780 Main St. E. Milton; June 6 at Mapleview Mall, 900 Maple Ave., Burlington; and June 13 at the Halton Regional Centre, 1151 Bronte Rd., Oakville (parking lot A ­ entrance at North Service Road). Each barrel fits into the back seat of an average vehicle and requires minimal assembly.
