Each student obliged, with some calling for more green space and parks, others advocating for additional food banks, and some saying more sports facilities were a good way to improve the community. Others suggested traffic congestion could be improved by building additional side streets, while another student said the banning of plastic bags would improve the local environment. All these plans were well-received by Oakville Mayor Rob Burton, who presided over the mock council meeting. "I was very impressed with their energy and the excellent quality of their big ideas," he said. "They presented great livable Oakville concepts that also incorporated solid financial planning -- a great job all around." Each student had one minute to present an idea and a plan to finance it. see Students on p.26
