This is the second year The Co-operators has been the presenting sponsor and it has also committed to the same role next year, Peden said. On Tuesday (May 19) a cheque for $18,000 was presented to Sheridan College during the Ribfest kick-off at the Dave Pecharich Insurance Agency for The Co-Operators on Rebecca Street in Oakville. "We raised more than $100,000 from last year's Ribfest and the $18,000 was just one of the services we supported," Peden said. "The money for Sheridan goes to their student emergency funds for students, who can't continue their education because of an extreme family circumstance." RibFest also supports Rotary's International work such as providing funds for wells to provide clean water, polio vaccinations, mosquito nets for malaria prevention. "Oakville's only Ribfest is a great way to enjoy the start of summer while you help Rotary help others," Peden said. The nine ribbers competing this year are Jack on the Bone, Boss Hogs BBQ, Kentucky Smokehouse, Crazy Canuck Smokers, Gator BBQ, Tennessee Fatbacks, Bad Wolf Barbecue, Route 55 and Pistol Pete Smokehouse.
