HIEC Breakfast with Mayors looks to power of youth by Bob Mitchell Oakville Beaver Staff 19 | Thursday, May 21, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Kelly Lovell, recognized as one of Canada's most powerful women, will be the keynote speaker at this year's annual Halton Industry Education Council (HIEC) Spring Breakfast with the Mayors, May 29, at the OE Banquet and Conference Centre in Oakville. Lovell, who lives in Waterloo, has developed an array of ambitious not-for-profit projects that foster youth engagement and leadership development across Canada, organizers say. "Youth are not the leaders of tomorrow. We are the leaders of today," Lovell said. "We are innovators, creators and entrepreneurs at heart." Organized by HIEC, this year's breakfast event focuses on students. Those attending will also hear directly from several young people about their success stories through mentorship, experiential learning, innovation and collaboration. The breakfast also wraps up HIEC's 25th anniversary celebration of programs and initiatives. Lovell is also recognized as one of Canada's Top 20 Under 20. With her `Kelly Effect,' she has been involved in building schools in Africa to mobilizing volunteerism projects and serving as a National Youth Delegate on leadership platforms. She is committed to helping youth achieve their ambitions by developing action plans that are pro-active and tailored to their personalities and interests Tickets for the breakfast, which runs from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., cost $40 or $300 for a table of eight.
