Team FCT ­ Fighting Cancer Together is the moniker of the approximate 30-person group representing the title insurance provider's local branch in the upcoming Oakville Relay for Life. The 14th annual event will run from 7 p.m.7 a.m. on Friday, June 19 at the Sts. Peter and Paul Parish grounds, 1039 Dundas St. W. For 12 hours, participants walk or run together around a track or path at a local school, park or fairground, passing a baton to their fellow participants as they work together to ght cancer. This will be FCT's fth year in the Oakville Relay, which will also welcome corporate teams from Caterpillar Financial, Canadian Team FCT working to ght cancer at Oakville Relay for Life. Last year, the Oakville-based FCT raised more than $20,000 earning it the title of top corporate team in Halton. The group hopes to repeat its 2014 fundraising success this year. Twane Boettinger, FCT information technology (IT) operations manager, said Relay for Life is important because it's the country's largest cancer research fundraiser. In 2014, the event raised more than $42 million Canada-wide for the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) and drew 128,734 participants in nearly 400 relays. "It's important every year to keep the money coming because it helps the researchers continue to move their projects forward. Without it, everything just comes to a stop and the last 10 or 20 years is wasted," said Boettinger. The company's involvement in the Relay started as an "IT thing," Boettinger said, as he and coworkers rallied behind a project manager who was ghting cancer.
