Children are asked to be imaginative in coming up with one name entry for each school. A single syllable name is preferred but a maximum of two syllables will be accepted. A gender neutral name is suggested. Deadline is Friday Students have until Friday, June 5 to submit a name. The Halton Regional Police Canine Team will choose the top three names provided by participating schools. Beginning June 10, elementary schools will have two ways to vote for their favourite name. A hashtag campaign will be run through the @HaltonPolice and @HRPSK9 Twitter accounts. Non-Twitter users can visit haltonpolice.ca. The name that collects the most hashtags and online votes will be declared the winner. The service is adding a sixth canine team by late summer and the specially-trained, four-legged furry recruit needs a name. Invitation to elementary students Halton police is inviting elementary The school that offers the winning name will receive a visit from Halton Police Chief Stephen Tanner, the new K9 handler and new Police Service Dog (PSD), upon the latter's completion of training in the fall. The new Police Service Dog will join PSD Tracker, PSD Storm, PSD Parker, PSD Bishop and PSD Nero in serving Halton.
