The Oakville Blades have had their fair share o f ups and downs so far this season. As they head for Newmarket this weekend, to take part in the annual Showcase Tournament, they hope to leave their mark. And, they want to use Newmarket to help lever them into the final stretch o f their regular season, and more importantly, their playoff run. The Blades have had a light sched ule over the holiday period with their first game in seven days this past Sunday which they won 5-2 aver the host Mississauga Chargers. It was a big win for Oakville not only because they wanted to head for Newmarket on a good note, but also because Mississauga is hot on their tail in the western conference standings. The Chargers had cut the Blades lead in the standings to just two points, but this win puts Oakville back in the driver's seat. Oakville broke open a 2-2 tie after two periods with three unanswered third period goals. This was after Mississauga, in the second period, had erased a 2-0 lead the Blades had built up in the first period. M ike Ruberto led the scoring parade with a pair of goals while single markers were added by Nick Dodge, Rob Tarantino and Lane Moodie. It was an exciting game, which saw Oakville's Coach Jay Anderson shak ing up his lines. "I tried splitting up the lines tonight to spread the scoring around," explained Anderson. "But I ended up putting the first line back together again by the end of the game." Anderson took the Blades' front line of Marc Pinizzotto, Mike Ruberto, and Rob Tarantino and divided them up into two lines. The new lines consist ed of Pinizzotto, Tarantino, and Jason Dopaco on one line; Nick Dodge, Ruberto, and Steve Pinizzotto on the other. But Anderson found that it was just too tough to keep his top line apart because they do so well together, showing great chemistry. In fact, they m anaged a com bined eight points against Mississauga. "The three o f them just seem to know each other so well that it makes it too tough to keep them apart. If you want to be successful, they're the guys who are leading the team." The Blades next regular season game is Thursday, Jan. 2 in Brampton and the following night (Friday, Jan. 3), 7:30 p.m., they're back at home, hosting Mississauga.
