World's best curlers in Oakville Hurry, Hurry, Hard! Those words are well known throughout the curling world as the trademark of Russ Howard who, with his New Brunswick foursome, will be returning to the Oakville Curling Club Friday through Sunday (Dec. 27-29) to compete in the $100,000 M&M Meat Shops Skin Games. Howard, the winningest skip in Brier history and former Canadian and World champion, will once again compete with the best including teams skipped by brother Glenn, Kevin Martin, Randy Ferbey, Kerry Burtnyk, John Morris, Wayne Middaugh and Kevin Parks. This prestigious curling event is open to the public. A weekend pass costs $40 (including taxes) and is still available at the Oakville Curling Club. Anyone wishing more information should call the Club at 905-844-6982. Totals 250 155 68 27 Rangers well represented at tourney The Oakville Rangers are hosting this year's huge Richard Bell Memorial Hockey tournament which runs Friday through Monday (Dec. 27-30). It's the biggest by far, with more than 100 teams entered into the four `m inor' divisions -- minor atom, minor peewee. minor bantam and minor midget. In addition, each of the divisions are all represented by three levels (A, AA and AAA), with the exception of the minor atom AAA which doubled up with the Brantford tournament. The Oakville Rangers, of course, are represented in all 11 divisions. It's interesting to note that these 11 teams, between them, have played 250 games to date, posting a record of 155-68-27 (w,l,t). This is an outstanding accumulation of points, and augers well for the tournament, particularly when you con sider that one team -- the Oakville Rangers minor peewee AAA rep team -- has been hit by five players leaving for the GTHL, and are at 2-20-0. Their record, however, in no way measures the'size of their hearts. `T hey never quit, and even for an extra volunteer practice, all 17 players show up," said coach Mario MacDonald. Due to the age changes in minor hockey this season, most of the players will be participating in their second consecutive Richard Bell Memorial, so they are well aware o f what they can look forward to competition-wise. Included here, are their league records, to date, along with an unbiased `forecast' of their possibilities in the tour nament. The tournament should have no shortage of highlights. The premier minor midget AAA division are in their draft eligible year and there will be plenty of scouts on hand. And the minor midget AA divi sion has far flung teams from Boulder, Colorado and Danderyd, Sweden (also represented in minor midget A division) to spice things up. As well, the ever popular three-on-three tournament is on tap (at Ice Sports Oakville). For full sched ule, log on to the MOHA website at www.moha.on.ca. C rescen t"frtW osA oxm a Li & L .
