D2 - The Oakville Beaver, Tuesday D e c e m b e r 24, 2002 The Wish The wind licked the windows as the freshly fallen snow danced upon the frozen branches o f the naked trees. I stared out the window pensively putting together my let ter to Santa. "I don't want toys, m oney'br riches. You see, my brother is a U.S. citi zen. He is 19 years old and eligible to be drafted into the U.S. Army. Since there is so much fighting going on, I am so afraid Look for our full dour he will be called to war and have to leave our family." Coincidentally, Santa received thou sands and thousands o f letters from people all over the world. There were five-yearolds, tw elve-year-olds, forty and even eighty-year-olds, all wishing for the same thing. Santa promptly notified the Pope with word o f this phenomenon. Cooperatively, they called a meeting with all the presi dents, leaders, kings and prime ministers worldwide to address these requests from all their people. They all met and the Pope reminded them that the world started with nothing, and if they carry on with their armies fight ing and killing, the world would end with nothing. All the leaders shook hands and agreed that their conflict should end so that the world can live in peace. Suddenly I woke up with head on my desk and pen in hand. As I peered out my window, I focused on the tree outside and a lonely leaf that still hung on. Then, one fast gust of wind blew and the last good leaf fell to the ground. This can't happen to us, I thought, and I start ed to write: Dear Santa: The winds o f w ar must end now. I have an id ea... By Justin D. St. A ndrew C atholic School, Grade 7 "I wish for a friend, oh I wish for a friend!" I suddenly woke up. finding that I had had an unrestful night. I had spent most of it dreaming o f my one Christm as wish: a friend. I tore out of bed, realizing it was Christmas morning, the day I had been waiting for all year. I raced downstairs in nervous anticipation, finding the living room full o f presents. Quickly, I opened every one and looked through every corner o f the house, only to the sadness o f not finding my one Christm as wish. Disappointed, I slowly walked back up the stairs. Halfway up, I heard a whimpering sound coming from my Christm as stocking. I slowly turned around and walked to the fireplace where my stocking was hung, afraid o f what might be in there. I reached into the stock ing and pulled out a warm, furry feeling creature. Before I could get a chance to look at it, the small fuzzy creature jum ped out o f my arms and knocked me over, lick ing my face. Opening my eyes, I smiled in delight at my new friend. By Sarah K. _ St. Andrew School, Grade 7 Deck the Halls with Christmas problems It was a cold, windy day as Tessa and Lilly walked to school. Their best friend, Dana, ran up to them. "Hi girls!" she cried." Don't you just loovvee Christmas with all the presents. I just love presents! Presents are the best thing in the whole world!" "Dana." Lilly said, "is that the only thing you care about?" "What else is there to care about?" Dana shot back. "It's ju st that you need the spirit of Christm as, not just presents," Lilly replied.
