Planting Canada's emblem

The Bronte Horticultural Society will take part in the Arbor Day celebrations next Friday by planting a 12-foot high native Red Maple at Woodside Public Library on Rebecca St.

Prior to the planting which is expected to take place at 11 a.m., Mrs. Nan West, the children's librarian at Woodside will tell pre-schoolers about trees and how they grow. The children, their mothers and the library staff will take part in the planting ceremony.

Ceremonies for the official opening of Arbor Day will be held at Coronation Park at 2:30 p.m.

Guests at the ceremony will include Mayor Harry Barrett, chairman of the town tree committee, Laurie Mannell, trustee R.E. Gooding, Halton MPP and Minister of Government Services James Snow and Halton MP Terry O'Connor. Mrs. Jean Caine, president of CHWO Radio will be the master of ceremonies.
