Raising the flag for Autism awareness in Oakville by Abigail Cukier Special to the Beaver 21 | Thursday, June 18, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Autism Ontario's Raise the Flag campaign is based on the belief that the simple act of raising a flag unites families, schools, communities, government and professionals in recognizing World Autism Awareness Day and brings to light the struggles and triumphs of people on the autism spectrum. This is exactly what volunteers and families from the Autism Ontario Halton Chapter, Oakville Mayor Rob Burton and several local councillors, as well as members of the Halton Regional Police Service, Tactical Rescue Unit did earlier this spring at Town Hall as they recognized the day on April 2. While the event highlighted the work done throughout the province, officials with the local Chapter say there is much work still needed to ensure that children, youths and adults living with ASD are provided the means to achieve quality of life. That work and the effort to raise awareness continues with the recognition day now passed. see Wait lists on p.27 Summer Camp 2015 oNly a FEw sPots lEFt!
