Surging Oakville Buzz clinches playoff spot The Oakville Buzz is headed to the Ontario Lacrosse Association junior B playoffs once again. Oakville won three games in as many days last weekend to improve its record to 10-7 and guarantee itself a playoff berth. The Buzz was fifth in the East Conference standings, going into last night's (Wednesday's) game in Markham. Oakville pounded the Orillia Kings 17-3 Friday at Toronto Rock Athletic Centre, then earned road wins over the Brampton Excelsiors Saturday, 16-8, and Newmarket Saints Sunday, 11-10. Eddie Renaud (four goals, five assists) and Joe French (four goals, three assists) combined for 16 points against Orillia; Foster Cuomo scored five goals and added two helpers as the Buzz overcame an early 6-1 deficit against Brampton by outscoring the Excelsiors 15-2 in the final two frames; and Cuomo (four goals, two assists) and French (three goals, three assists) each had six points in the win over Newmarket. Kyle Hebert recorded the win in goal in each game for the Buzz, which has won eight of 10. The Buzz will play its final home game of the regular season tomorrow (Friday, 8 p.m.) against Markham at TRAC, then close out the campaign Saturday in Georgetown against the Halton Hills Bulldogs. Blue Devils earn another shutout victory The Oakville Blue Devils posted their fifth clean sheet in seven League1 Ontario regularseason soccer outings, blanking the Windsor Stars 2-0 Friday in Windsor. Tony Ellis scored the winner in the 31st minute, and Filipe Vilela converted a penalty kick in the 50th minute to give the Blue Devils some breathing room. Oakville keeper Daniel Voci withstood a knee to the head late in the first half to stay in the game and earn the shutout. The Blue Devils now have six wins and a draw in League1 regular-season play, having outscored their opponents 17-4.
