www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, July 2, 2015 | 18 Halton Highlights 2015 July The countdown to the Pan Am/ Parapan Am Games is on! The Pan Am/Parapan Am Games are almost here and we are looking forward to welcoming athletes, families and tourists to our beautiful region. With the Town of Milton as official host of cycling events during the games, there will be lots of activity happening in our community. It gives us an opportunity to promote Halton as the Home to Cycling in Ontario and show off the great restaurants and tourist attractions we have throughout the region. We've also been working closely with the Town and the TO2015 organizers on areas including transportation, paramedic services, public health and emergency planning to ensure the Games will be safe, fun and successful. We know our roadways will be busier with increased traffic and we encourage Halton residents to plan ahead and be prepared. To learn more about the Pan Am/Parapan Am Games visit halton.ca/TO2015 or www.milton.ca/games. Maps of road closures on Regional roads are posted on our website to help you plan your route. Keeping you informed by highlighting what makes Halton a great place to live. Gary Carr, Regional Chair Conserve water this summer Halton is proud to provide our residents with access to high-quality water. The Region has a wide variety of programs and services in place to help protect and conserve our water resources and ensure that water is safe when it reaches your home, school or business. This summer, we encourage residents to conserve water since water consumption can double over these warmer months due to the increase in seasonal activities such as lawn watering and car washing. Through initiatives like the toilet rebate program, the annual rain barrel truckload sales and our household guide to water efficiency we hope to engage residents in water conservation to ensure everyone can enjoy water both now and in the future. If you would like to learn more about Halton's water, get tips on how to reduce your outdoor water use, or to sign up to receive an email alert when water restrictions are in effect, please visit halton.ca/water or dial 311. Connecting People and Services with the Halton Region Strategic Action Plan 2015-2018 Halton Region provides a wide range of important programs and services to residents to support a high quality of life in our community. From public health to social services, long-term care to customer support, we strive to ensure that everyone in Halton has easy and equitable access to the services they require. It is essential that our programs continue to respond to the changing demographics and diversity of Halton residents. That is why we will continue to engage the non-profit sector through programs that support community groups as they expand their services to more people in our region, especially our vulnerable population. As part of the Strategic Action Plan 2015-2018: Shaping Halton's Future, our actions over the current term of Council will reflect the evolving needs of the community. Over the next four years, we plan to: · Deliver new affordable and assisted housing opportunities; · Support the health and well-being of all Halton residents; and · Deliver integrated client-centered human services.
