Youths earn Duke of Edinburgh Silver Ten Oakville youths were among the 160 young Ontarians recognized with The Duke of Edinburgh's Silver Award of Achievement this spring. Presented by Lieutenant Governor of Ontario Elizabeth Dowdeswell, the awards were handed out during a morning ceremony at the Toronto Police College. The local youths being honoured are: Gregory Bobesich, Jasmin Chiu, Aseera Jivraj, Shannon McGarrell, Wilfred Moeschter, Jasmine Rocci, Eric Sheppard, Thomas Watson, Lara Werbowski and Junxi Xie. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, open to youths aged 14-24, challenges young people in four areas: community service, skill development, physical fitness and adventurous journey. "By completing the requirements of each section, our youth become active, healthy and involved, which is essential for their future and the future of our community," stated a media release. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award was founded by Prince Philip to encourage personal development and community involvement for young people.
