The announcement was made recently by Minister of State (Seniors) Alice Wong. The NSC was established to advise the Canadian government on matters related to the well-being and quality of life of seniors, including opportunities and challenges presented by the rapidly growing and increasingly diverse population. Spadafora founded the Centre for Elder Research in 2003 and over the past 12 years has "amassed an impressive body of work and developed a reputation for innovative research and community engagement," stated a media release. Spadafora named to NSC The centre's track record includes more than 80 applied research, evaluation and design projects that have benefited older adults and their families. It has also raised close to $6 million in government and corporate funding. Spadafora has more than 35 years of experience in social work and education and her expertise in the psychosocial dimensions of aging, aging in a foreign land, social inclusion and interaction, and the role of the arts in healthy aging, has helped to inform many of the centre's research projects, conferences and activities.
