Justice Jamie K. Trimble administered the Declaration of Office, asking Lishchyna to solemnly promise and declare that she would truly, faithfully and impartially exercise the duties of her office to the best of her knowledge and ability. She was also asked to promise and declare that she had not received, and would not receive, any payment or reward for the exercise of her office in a biased, corrupt or improper manner. Lishchyna agreed to uphold this oath and was sworn in to the applause of those present. The long-time Ward 6 resident was elected to the role of Ward 6 councillor on July 13 after winning the municipal Ward 6 by-election. Council decided to hold the by-election following the sudden death of Ward 6's councillor Max Khan in March. "Councillor Lishchyna, congratulations on behalf of all of council. I will tell you that being applauded by council and the public does not happen every night, but if your decisions are wise, I think it is safe to say it will happen to you again," said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. "This is a happy occasion for us on council because we are complete again after being deprived of the member who served in your place before by a tragic death before his time. "Everyone on council joins me in offering to work with you, and do everything we can in our power, to make you as successful as you would like to be as a councillor on this town council." Monday's meeting also saw Lishchyna appointed to sit on the Town's Administrative Services Committee. Lishchyna previously stepped away from the race to win the Conservative candidacy nomination in the new federal riding of Oakville-North Burlington in which she had opposed Mississauga-area MP Eve Adams. After each accused the another of wrongdoing and the Conservative Party stepped in to investigate, both walked away from the race.
