They settled in Toronto and in 1963 had identical twin sons John and Glenn. In 1965 the family moved to their first house in Clarkson, where they lived for 5 years before relocating to a house in Elizabeth's beloved town of Oakville in 1970, where she remained for the rest of her life. As her sons grew into teenagers, Elizabeth rejoined the work force and became active in local politics, eventually getting elected as town councillor, a position she used to fight tirelessly for the preservation of trees, green space, heritage buildings and other things she felt vital to the quality of life in Oakville. She was also employed as a secretary and real estate agent for various companies, and continued to be involved with local and community affairs after officially leaving town hall. After Elizabeth and Albert's divorce in 1982, Elizabeth stayed in their house in Oakville and began following another of her great passions by working as a horticulturist and gardener. She eventually started her own gardening business in the 90's, Garden Styles, which she maintained until mobility problems stemming from a work related injury forced her to retire. Elizabeth loved to walk, to observe and be in nature, and to talk with anyone who had a moment to stop and chat. She adored her grandchildren and was exceedingly generous when it came to helping to look after and care for them. She took great pride and pleasure in her sons' endeavours, displaying John's artwork around her house and greatly enjoying Glenn's membership as drummer in the band Blue Rodeo. She never failed to attend their Toronto shows, even as her mobility diminished and her health began to decline. Elizabeth was a proud and willful woman who always did things on her own terms, spending her last days peacefully in the home and garden she loved. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends, who loved her dearly. A memorial service will be held in her honour at a private residence on Mount Nemo in Burlington on Sunday, September 13th.
