Thieves target cigarettes in break-in For the second time in less than a week, Halton police are investigating the theft of thousands of dollars worth of cigarettes from the Canadian Tire Gas Bar on Kerr Street. A total of $18,000 worth of products was stolen during break-ins early last Friday morning and Monday, July 20. The latest break-in occurred at approximately 4 a.m. when two men approached the business and smashed its window, police said. The intruders used large bins to load packs of cigarettes into a waiting U-Haul. Police estimated the stolen property to be worth about $8,000. Surveillance footage captured images of the individuals. The first suspect is described as white with short brown hair. He wore a grey sweater, dark pants, white shoes, black gloves and a yellow scarf, which was wrapped around his face. The second suspect is described as white and wearing an orange sweater, dark pants, dark shoes, yellow and black work gloves and a beige shirt or scarf around his head and face. Police said this incident appears connected to a similar break-in that occurred at the same business earlier that week. On July 20, two thieves stole $10,000 worth of cigarettes from the gas bar and loaded them into a waiting U-Haul. Anyone with information about either of these incidents is asked to contact the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4747, ext. 2216 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). 3 | Thursday, July 30, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Vehicle crashes into townhouse by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff No one was injured when a vehicle crashed into a townhouse on Dorval Drive Monday morning. | photo by Graham Paine Oakville Beaver (Follow on Twitter @halton_photog or facebook.com/HaltonPhotog) Halton police say no one was injured after a car crashed into the side of a townhouse on Dorval Drive near North Service Road West, Monday morning. The accident occurred at approximately 8 a.m. when the southbound vehicle suddenly crossed the northbound lane and smashed into the building, breaking through a portion of the wall. Police said a mother and infant were in the home at the time of the crash, but were not injured. The female driver of the car was also not seriously injured, however, she was taken to hospital. Police said a medical issue might be behind the accident. The Oakville Fire Department was called to the scene after residents detected the smell of natural gas. The gas to the property was shut off with the Oakville Fire Department calling for a building inspector to examine the structural integrity of the residence. No property damage estimate was available as of press deadline. inside today's Beaver www.insideHALTON.com Pharmasave Drugs, Metro, M&M Meats, Oh!
