The free drop-in welcomed parents, caregivers and children of all ages for a carnival-themed storytime, carnival games, face painting and balloon animals. "We've worked very hard to make summer reading activities accessible to all, and the results have been overwhelmingly positive," said Janice Kullas, director of Branch Services and deputy CEO. She noted, as of Monday (July 27), more than 3,600 children have signed up as Summer Reading Club participants. The library's Summer Reading Celebration, among other initiatives and activities it holds, encourages children to keep reading and learning throughout the summer months by pairing fun and games with storytelling, according to a media release issued by the library. "Experts agree that children who read during the summer gain reading skills, while those who do not often slide backward," stated the release.
