www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, August 13, 2015 | 14 Halton Region has new rules in place for election signs by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff The federal election campaign is underway, however along some Oakville streets, a lack of election signs makes it hard to tell. New rules put in place by Halton Region after last October's municipal election bans the placement of election signs on public property along regional roads. The new rule means candidates may now only place their signs along arterial roads in the town. Arterial roads include Speers Road, Sixth Line, Eighth Line, Third Line and Lakeshore Road. Examples of regional roads include Dundas Street, Trafalgar Road, Dorval Drive and Bronte Road. Town council recently examined the possibility of imposing a complete ban on election signs on public property. Public concern about election signs has emerged as a significant issue over the last several years in the wake of numerous provincial, federal and municipal election campaigns. Some residents have complained about the visual Terence Young clutter caused by signs, litter created by poorly designed or installed signs, the potential for the placards to end up in the landfill after the election, Our delicious & authentic Mexican food and salsas are always fresh!
