The husband and wife team of Mario and Nella Molinaro has built an exemplary reputation with their "Catering For All Occasions" and event planning, based on a family tradition of Calabrese style cooking, their professional and courteous service, and personalised attention to clients. For the past seven years, they've been operating from a 4,000-square-foot industrial space at 3400 Ridgeway Drive, Unit 4. But previously, they ran a restaurant bearing the family name for close to a quarter century (at Tomken and Rathburn). "The restaurant was very, very good, but it was too many hours for us. People are still upset we closed it down," Nella smiles. "We have kept 90 per cent of the customers, who are coming here to load up their freezers." "We originally were just going to do catering (exclusively at this location), but the demand was so big for the Hot Lunch, and our Take and Bake section. It's growing daily." They've grown a large client base be it for corporate events (company picnics, conferences, etc.) or private functions (weddings, private parties, etc.). They provide an enticing array of specially made dishes. Enjoy one of their several popular lasagnas, pasta dishes, meat entrees, fish entrees and seafood platters. Other popular party orders include h'ors d'oeuvres, veggie platters, salads, hot Italian sandwiches, gourmet pizzas, fruit trays, cookies, and desserts. Molinaro's takes care of every detail for their clients from the menu to linens, deejay and photography-- providing an event coordinator on hand throughout the night. "When a delivery arrives, they find it is piping hot and everything is tasty and arranged, and boxed properly," Nella relates. "There's nothing sloppy about our deliveries." Molinaro's Hot Table is available from noon to 2 p.m., Monday to Friday, offering a choice of three different pastas daily. That includes such tasty treats as Gourmet Pizza by the slice, lasagna, hot sandwiches, and chicken or veal dishes, and prices are competitive. Over the years, they've fielded requests to open up in neighbouring cities. But they've always declined, preferring to stay hands-on in Mississauga. "We believe the bigger you get, the more the product is going to suffer," Mario comments. "(Others) forget where they came from. We never did." Their signature dishes remain the lasagna (the sauce made from Nella's mother's secret recipe), the meatballs, the pizza, and the Focaccia bread (Mario's specialty). All of their pastas are made from scratch daily, and they use only the highest quality ingredients (Gold label cheeses, tomatoes imported from Italy). "If I have to run to the store to pick up something, I don't send anybody," Nella relates. "I have to go pick my own fruit." All of this has produced a fierce loyalty among customers, some of whom have been coming in since the restaurant's inception in 1985. "For some people, we've catered every milestone event in their lives," observes their daughter Jessica, also part of the family fold. And over the years, Mario believes they've created a market all their own within this city. (His brother, Gino is owner of the long-running Molinaro's Fine Italian Foods in Mississauga, which supplies pizza, calzones, pizza crusts and dough balls to grocery chains across the country). "The Mississauga News is 50 years old, and we're 30 years old. We want to talk about our past, as well," he says. "I want to thank our customers, and everybody who comes in." "We really feel, for the last 30 years we've had no competition to speak of in Mississauga. And now we've got a lot of customers coming from Oakville, and Milton."
