Event organizers are gearing up for the national famine weekend on April 6 and 7. Local students will join an estimated 170,000 youth nation-wide expected to register for the event Participants will go without solid food for 30 hours, drinking only water and juice. The aim of the 30 Hour Famine is to increase awareness of world hunger and raise funds for children in the poorest coun tries around the globe. Each day, 30,500 children die from hunger and preventable diseases worldwide. Locally, 30 Hour Famine events are being organized by Chartwell Baptist Church Youth and Iroquois Ridge High School.
