On Sunday (Aug. 23), families are invited to bring a blanket and picnic lunch to Lakeside Park, 144 Front St., for the last Fortnight Pop-up Picnic of the season. The date of the event is exactly two weeks (or a fortnight) before the end of the summer vacation season. It will take place from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and feature family-friendly busker entertainment. Next Thursday (Aug. 27), Oakville artists and art lovers will have the chance to check out a unique, mobile library of sketchbooks when the Sketchbook Project drops by Towne Square, 95 George St., from 3-7 p.m. The Sketchbook Project is a global, crowdsourced art project and interactive exhibition made up of more than 30,000 handmade sketchbooks from 135 countries. The mobile library is currently touring North America before returning home to its permanent collection at the Brooklyn Art Library. Everyone is welcome to browse through the collection or contribute their own sketchbook for others to enjoy. More details are available at sketchbookproject.com.
