www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, August 28, 2015 | 18 International Digital Bookmobile tour to stop in Oakville O n Saturday, Sept. 12, the incredible OverDrive Digital Bookmobile will be stopping in Oakville. The Oakville Public Library has partnered with RioCan Oakville Place to host the 74-foot-long traveling exhibit on mall premises, and curious residents of all ages are invited to attend. In addition to tours of the innovative 18-wheeler, all visitors will have the opportunity to sign up for an Oakville Public Library card, learn about digital borrowing (eBooks, etc) at the library, receive help from library staff and enter to win amazing prizes, including a $250 gift certificate to RioCan Oakville Place. Children especially are in for a treat -- library staff will be hosting interactive, digital storytimes in the mall food court at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Building on the tradition and admiration of the bookmobile, which for generations has engaged communities with library materials and services, the mission of the Digital Bookmobile is to help libraries across North America promote the digital services available to their communities. As technology advances, more information is available to library users than ever before -- and people are starting to notice. "While the data tells us that print is still the most popular reading format, we are seeing a surge in digital borrowing. In the past year, borrowing of our digital collection has increased by 60 per cent," says Charlotte Meissner, Oakville Public Library CEO. "Our commitment to making library materials accessible is complemented by the wealth of resources now available at the tap of a finger, from the OverDrive app and others. "It's important to engage our community and shine a light on the many benefits of their future-focused library," she adds. For more information on the OverDrive Digital Bookmobile event or digital borrowing at the library, visit www.opl.ca.
