Applications for the pre-season Mitron hockey school which runs Aug. 20-24 at Glen Abbey Rec Centre are now available. * * * * Victory over Brampton for tri-county title The Oakville Rangers novice A rep team finished the season on a high note by winning the tri-county championship against the Brampton Battalion, on Brampton's home ice earlier this month. It takes character and discipline to win championships. After losing every regular season game to the Battalion, the Oakville team man aged a 3-3 tie in the first game of the series. In Game 2, Oakville faced a fired up team looking to move ahead. The result was a 7-0 loss for the Rangers. Oakville was back in game three with attitude, win ning 5-3. The final game was a real battle with Oakville getting some crucial penalties in the dying minutes o f the game. Brampton pulled the goalie, pucks were flying and the crowd was roaring. The Rangers pulled it off, winning the final game 4-2, after an empty net goal sealed the victory. The championship was a culmination of a season that started off in less than spec tacular fashion. After a very slow start, Oakville battled its way from die basement to finish fourth overall in the division. After getting knocked out of the OMHA playdowns by Hespeler, the Rangers went on to a 5-1 tear in the tri-county roundrobin. Winning was never easy for the Rangers. The tri-county championship was the result o f hard work and commitment by the players and the coaches to a goal that some times seemed beyond reach. Congratulations go out to all o f the Rangers who worked so hard to achieve their goal. Special thanks to the coaches, sponsors, and parents who turned the sea son into something special. And they both did it with identi cal records of four wins and a tie. PEEWEE A In the peewee A division cham pionship game, the Oakville Rangers won an exciting 2-1 over time shootout after tying the game 1-1 in the third period on a goal by Jordy Camilleri, assisted by Dean Kenwood and Pat Kahnert. After the scoreless overtime, Oakville potted three shootout goals by Matt Bums, David Sissons and Jeff Sebben while goaltender Matt Sulyma stopped three o f the four shots he faced. In the semifinal, Oakville dou bled Mississauga 4-2 on goals by David Sissons (2), Jordy Camilleri and Steven Zeni. Assists went to Sissons, Matt Bruns, Derek Werstroh and Jamie Flegg. (Preliminary round) Game one: the Rangers won the opener 2-1 in overtime over Markham. Dean Kenwood scored the regulation time goal to send the game into overtime. Matt Bums proved to be the hero, scoring with just 32 seconds left. Jeff Sebben assisted on both goals while single assists went to Derek Werstroh and Pat Kahnert. Game two: Mike McMurrich nabbed the shutout in a 1-0 win over Stouffville. Jesse Mejaski pot ted the game's lone goal, assisted by Dean Kenwood and David Sissons. Oakville outshot Stouffville 19-12. PVB is an innovative group o f former and current national level beach volleyball athletes who have developed a forward thinking, athlete centred sport business model, the core o f which relies upon the athlete-to-athlete link. The PVB concept is straightforward and function al; consisting of eight consecutive weeks o f skills camps at the Playdium, Mississauga, along with a 4 6 stop beach volleyball camp tour across southern Ontario. Revenues generated through the camps go directly to the athlete coaches, and will go toward competitive travel and training costs.
