ith a sunny and unseasonably sultry Labour Day weekend slowly fading in the rearview mirror, we wistfully and begrudgingly say `sayonara' to a superb summer, even though autumn won't be of cially ushered in for another two weeks. Summers are to be savoured. Sadly, for many, summer has become about the only time of year in which we get back to basics -- reconnecting with family and friends -- and also pamper ourselves with overdue rest and relaxation. Camping, cottage, road trip, world travels, whatever, wherever. And, here's hoping that you found some quiet time on a dock to listen to the loons (the aquatic birds, not Aunt Edna and her new hubby Herb); that you watched at least one sunrise and one sunset; that you sat in a café in some city you'd never been to before and ordered a drink you'd never before sipped; and that you simply spent an hour or two contemplating life, or even your navel -- or that special place in time and space where life and your navel intersect. For me, summers are spent outdoors. Getting into the swing of golf, maintaining the acreage, and cycling -- as the summer progressed our cycling routes expanded and we discovered novel nooks and crannies in the countryside.
