Put on by the Kerr Village Business Improvement Area, and presented by Budds' Oakville, gates to the annual free street festival open at 3 p.m. today (Friday). The event continues rain or shine through to Saturday (Sept. 12). Friday's activities, running from 3-11 p.m., include: food tents from various local restaurants; a beer tent (for those aged 19 and older); and local artists' works will be displayed at the Art in the Park tent. Performances kick off on the main stage at Westwood Park, 170 Wilson St., at the corner of Kerr and Bond streets, with Whiskey Epiphany at 4:30 p.m. Other bands scheduled to perform Friday include: Wicked Grin and Bill Durst (lead guitarist and vocalist the 70's classic rock band Thundermug). The evening caps off with the 80's sensation, and Burlington-based synthpop band The Spoons. Tomorrow's activities and entertainment runs from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. The Budds' Kerrfest Vintage Car Show will be at Stewart Street to Florence Drive from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. No shortage of activities Other activities include: exhibitors at Heritage Square; artists and face painters at Sea & Craft Framing Gallery, 326 Kerr St., and in the open space across the street and in tent at Westwood Park; the Polar Express Trackless Train will run along Rebecca Street to Florence; inflatables, a kids zone rock climbing wall at the corner of Rebecca and Kerr; a mechanical bull, tractor run, combo pirate, stilt walker and carnival photo board (Rebecca to John streets); and a skateboard competition at John Street and Lakeshore Road. There will be no shortage of musical entertainment Saturday either with Darren Evorglens taking the main stage first at 12:15 p.m. The day will also include performances by: Canadian singer/songwriter Kenny Munshaw; Steven Page, the former lead singer of the Barenaked Ladies; Eclectic Revival; young Canadian country singer/songwriter Vanessa Marie Carter; Russell deCarle, lead vocalist and bassist of the iconic Canadian country roots band Prairie Oyster; British-born, Canadian blues guitarist Jack De Keyzer; and Blue Rodeo's Jim Cuddy. Plenty of ways to get to Kerrfest Festival-goers will be able to get to the event via Oakville Transit, while there is public parking at the Washington Street Lot, along Speers Road and the Kerr Street shopping centre lot. There will be limited parking at Oakville Arena. Bike racks are available along Kerr Street and a corral is available at Westwood Park.
