OMB hearing into Saw-Whet development was extended by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff 9 | Thursday, September 17, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Custom EvEnt saturday, sEptEmbEr 26th 20% off Custom Clothing from CopplEy Residents interested in learning what the future holds for the former Saw-Whet Golf Course will have to wait until late January, at least. An Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) pre-hearing on Bronte Green Corporation's proposal to develop the 55-hectare property at 1401 Bronte Rd. was held at Town Hall Friday (Sept. 11). There, it was determined the three-week hearing, set to start Oct. 13, would require two additional weeks for all interested parties and witnesses to be heard. The earliest time available for the continuance is the weeks of Jan. 18 and Jan. 25. It was also determined Friday the hearing will follow the traditional OMB format, in which Bronte Green Corporation outlines its case, followed by arguments against it from the Town of Oakville, Halton Region, Conservation Halton (CH), and others. Bronte Green had tried, unsuccessfully, to steer the hearing format into one structured by topic. Company representatives argued such an approach would be more efficient and would allow the hearing to get to the heart of the more than 60 issues the Town and other stakeholders have and allow those present to quickly explore possible solutions. Bronte Green's development application went before the Town of Oakville in March 2014 and Bronte Green appealed the matter to the OMB in October 2014, citing the Town's failure to deliver a timely decision. The developer wants to build 760 residences on the Saw-Whet property, including 520 singledetached homes, 104 back-to-back dwellings, 125 townhouses and 11 single-detached residential condominiums. The plan has raised concern among many area residents, who fear the loss of greenspace. Approximately 600 concerned residents attended a special meeting organized by Ward 4 councillors Allan Elgar and Roger Lapworth at the Region of Halton headquarters on April 14. The meeting was held to inform members of the public how they could have their voices heard during the OMB hearing -- and drew 51 individuals filing participation statements for the hearing. Bronte Green and the Town each plan to call 15 witnesses during the hearing. Halton Region and Conservation Halton each expect to call seven witnesses. The Halton District School Board expects to call two witnesses while a representative of the nearby Enns' property will call three witnesses. The OMB hearing begins at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 13 in Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Rd. 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. 200 lakeshore lakeshore road road East, East, 200 oakville, ont. ont. oakville, www.burrowsclothiers.com www.burrowsclothiers.com 905-842-0232 905-842-0232
