www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, September 18, 2015 | 12 Building a Better Halton: Infrastructure update fall 2015 B uilding a Better Halton is the Region's infrastructure construction plan for roads, water, wastewater and waste management projects. Halton is committed to high-quality infrastructure and over the next 10 years will be investing $2.9 billion into well-planned, well-built and well-maintained communities that preserve our natural environment and meet the needs of our residents now and in the future. So far in 2015, Halton has invested approximately $295 million in water, wastewater and transportation projects. I'd like to update you on some key projects that are close to completion: by early fall 2015. Britannia West corridor Project This water and wastewater project in Milton is on track for completion by late fall 2015 and involves the extension of close to three kilometers of water and wastewater mains to service newly-developed land from Sixteen Mile Creek to Tremaine Road, south of Louis St. Laurent Boulevard. The use of micro-tunnelling technology allowed for the work to be done with minimal Gary Carr Halton Region Chair road closures and disruptions. The sewers are now complete and were tunnelled roughly 12 metres below ground. Portions of the watermain under Regional Road 25 and CN Rail have been constructed using the same technology. The remaining work to be completed will be done using conventional methods. Dundas Street -- Towne Boulevard to Sixth Line This watermain project is the final link between watermains on Neyagawa Boulevard and Sixth Line and spans 1.65 km. This transmission main conveys water to the new Zone 4 Booster Pump Station, which will allow the growing areas of north Oakville and Milton to be serviced efficiently. The construction is now complete and the main is being tested to ensure proper operation. Water service will be available to residents Steeles Road reconstruction The widening of Steeles Avenue between Winston Churchill Boulevard and Trafalgar Road in Halton Hills will also be complete by fall 2015. This widening project, along with other ongoing and completed projects along Steeles Avenue, will connect Halton Hills, Milton, Mississauga and Brampton for commuters and businesses between Halton and Peel. Derry Road Underpass The underpass grade separation on Derry Road, west of Bronte Street in the Town of Milton, provides a much-needed east-west road link. The four-lane road underneath the railway bridge was opened to traffic in time for the 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Games. When the underpass is fully complete by fall 2015 with bicycle lanes and multi-use paths, it will provide safe and efficient connection for vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians. Halton Region's commitment to infrastructure is yet another reason that this region is a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire.
