The annual awards recognition night is put on by the Mississauga Halton Community Care Access Centre (CCAC). Heroes go that `extra mile' Nominees go that "extra mile" to care for a spouse, family member or friend to help them live a fulfilling life, according to the local CCAC. "Many of the people who contribute to the care of a loved one, family, friend or neighbour do not see themselves as heroes, but we know how vital they truly are," Caroline Brereton, CEO of the Mississauga Halton CCAC, said in a media release. "We want to recognize that these people contribute their time and energy to give compassionate care to someone around them who is affected by age, illness or disability.... It is important to celebrate them and our Heroes in the Home Awards is just one way we say thank you," continued Brereton in the statement.
