New OTMH surpasses fundraising goal at $65M by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff 5 | Thursday, September 24, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com The Oakville Hospital Foundation has raised a record-breaking $65 million -- surpassing its goal of raising $60 million to fund the opening-day equipment needs of the new Oakville hospital. Donations from the campaign are being used to pay for more than 30,000 pieces of medical equipment and technology needed before the hospital -- also named Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital -- opens its doors Dec. 13 of this year. The campaign was supported by a dedicated group of volunteers and led by co-chairs Bill Cooper and Eve Willis. "This is an exciting time for everyone in Oakville and demonstrates the enormity of what can be accomplished when donors come together with passion and dedication," said Willis. "We are delighted that we've not only met, but exceeded our campaign goal." Cooper said the success of the campaign, which will allow for the opening of the new Oakville hospital, marked the beginning of a new chapter of health care in Oakville. "We should celebrate this accomplishment and the continued fundraising successes that I know we will enjoy as we move forward," he said. The Oakville Hospital Foundation has reached -- and surpassed -- its goal of fundraising $60 million to equip the new Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) for its opening day Dec. 13, 2015. To date, $65 million has been raised. The campaign publicly launched in May 2013 and since then, more than 28,000 donors contributed to what the foundation called "the largest fundraising campaign in Oakville's history." The donations included 17 gifts of $1 million or more, with the single largest gift of $10 million made by Mattamy Homes founder and CEO Peter Gilgan. In recognition of Gilgan's pace-setting gift, the Patient Care Centre in the new Oakville hospital is named in his honour. "This achievement demonstrates that a culture of philanthropy is alive and well in Oakville," said Tina Triano, Oakville Hospital Foundation CEO. "It is a milestone worthy of celebration and we look forward to continuing to support the emerging priorities of the hospital, and building on Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital's commitment to exemplary patient care." Halton Healthcare Service (HHS) President and CEO Denise Hardenne also weighed in on the success of the campaign. "There isn't a room in the new Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital that has not benefitted from the generosity of our donors," she said. "From beds to MRIs to incubators, the list of critical equipment matched to the expansive list of donors is remarkable." While the Oakville Hospital Foundation has met its goal for opening day, it continues to raise funds for equipment the hospital will need down the road.
