An email, sent to parents of elementary students Wednesday, stated the decision is related to the elementary school teachers' workto-rule campaign. RBC Dominion Securities Inc. "... Halton elementary teachers are in a legal strike position. Various job sanctions have been instituted over the past several months. While teachers will supervise cross-country meets, a recent job sanction dictates their absence from classrooms cannot be covered by other teachers," stated part of the email to parents. "Due to the large number of participants, number of schools and limited number of occasional teachers available to fill the required teacher vacancies at the schools, all elementary cross-country meets have been postponed." Teachers and school administrators were told of the cross-country meet postponements Tuesday, said Halton board communications officer Jason Misner. It is unknown how many cross-country meets, or participating students, are affected by the decision. The Halton board informed parents it will attempt to re-schedule events following the lifting of elementary teacher sanctions. "We understand this is disappointing news for students planning on participating and representing their schools.
